Reflections
Lisette Model
"... photography is an art form which means: human beings expressing their understanding of and connection with life, themselves, and other human beings."
Lisette Model had created series of images which lead to reflections, where she had photographed windows from shops or buildings around the 5th avenue in New York. She has captured many different aspects of the city into one single image, which also appears to be more of a collage which she has over lapped several images on top of each other.
Lee Friedlander
“You don’t have to go looking for pictures. The material is generous. You go out and the pictures are staring at you”.
Friedlander was born in the early 1930's, he was mostly known for takin pictures of landscape. But he also took many different type of things from nudes leading to monuments. But wit Friedlander's work he had three main things that he he styled out he's work with: 1. Reflections: He loved to takes pictures of people just walking or standing, talking on the phone to someone laying against the windows of the street. When he took pictures of the windows he didn't just include the people walking along the streets he captured many different features that were reflected from the window of the building, such as he included the other buildings and the things that were inside of the building. 2. Frames: He also frequently took pictures using a car's window, using it as a frame that was also a frame. He had also used many different things that were used as frames such as windshields and maybe a rear view mirrors for the idea he had before. And what I like about this is that he doesn't just capture the reflection through the mirror, he captures just a bit more of the scene. We can see that there is a celebration or soldiers just walking down the street and the neighbours sitting on a bench and watching them walk down the road. 3. Shadows of himself: While taking a picture of something while walking down the street of someone or something he loved to include a shadow of him into the image which was kinda like a signature for his work and maybe he was trying to make it part of a story. Within some images that he has taken you would some times just see his top half of the body or a full body reflection of himself. He wouldn't try and do any special movements or poses, it would just be a straight pose.
Response #1
I wanted to take pictures of building base images, which was not as successful this is because I couldn't really find the right type of buildings to take pictures of which when I was walking around in Canary Wharf I realised a reflection on the river which then I took pictures of them. I have also taken pictures reflecting from a cars window or the shops window. I realised to take pictures of reflections you have to chose the right time of day to take them this is because of the light of the image and the way the object is.
